The World Unity Landmark

A Continuing and Lasting Contribution

Are you greater than the sun
that shines on everyone:
Black, Brown, Yellow, Red, and White,
the sun does not discriminate.”

© 1985 Sara Ting

The World Unity Landmark addresses an issue affecting many people every day, in every community across Boston, Massachusetts, America and around the world. In Massachusetts we’re especially faced with a reputation of not welcoming people of color as outlined in the Commonwealth Compact signed by the Governor, the Mayor of Boston, Newton, Somerville and up to 260 companies, organizations and institutions.

Landmark Design Concepts

2011 Boston Architectural College Design Competition

World Unity, Inc collaborated with the Boston Architectural College on a design competition in 2011. The winning concept conveys the Sun poem in a strong visual design concept.
The landmark will serve as a powerful reminder to each generation to value equality, diversity and inclusion and see the common humanity we all share.

The Sun Poem is showcased on the wall that embraces the landmark. Visitors have an opportunity to sit and reflect on its message.
