Structural Analysis and 8th Annual Poetry Contest

World Unity, Inc. has continued to persevere with its vision and mission. In 2011 we collaborated with the Boston Architectural College on a design competition and secured an exciting design concept. In a public meeting of the park in 2008 a landscape architect identified a place within the park for landmark. We pursued that space for the World Unity Landmark.

In 2012 we contracted with Jon Kunberger a structural engineer to do a structural analysis of the space. The estimate was $11,500. He donated half his service fee which was $11,000. We worked with the MBTA to secure the appropriate site plans needed to complete the analysis . The report was completed and reviewed by the MBTA. We secured a cost estimate by a professional cost estimator. The estimate was about 3.2 million for construction.

Our 16th Annual Diversity and Inclusion was a success. It was held November 10th, 2012 at the Boston Marriott Hotel, Copley Square. This is our signature event each year to put a spotlight on the project, bring the community together and raise funds. We continue to maintain some core sponsors and secure new ones. This year we engaged Salem State University and re-engaged Deloitte one of our long time sponsors. The total funds raised were $37,466. Our total expense for the year was $34,736.

We continued to strengthen our board and brought on two new board members, Alan Newsome, Terron Hill and Bob Sansone. Alan Newsome distinguished himself with his generous donation to the gala event.

We co-sponsored with WROR FM radio the 8th Annual Statewide poetry contest promoting diversity and equality. The winning poem aired on WROR FM for one month. We had entries from 22 school districts.
