11th Annual Event, 3rd Annual Poetry Contest

In 2007 World Unity, Inc. continued to persevere in finalizing the site for the World Unity Landmark at Children’s Wharf Park. While we have been officially designated to build the Landmark in Children’s Wharf Park the Memorandum of Understanding with the Children’s Museum, Parks Department and World Unity, Inc. cannot be signed until the land is officially transferred from the MBTA to the BRA. Once it is transferred it will be leased to the Children’s Museum. The BRA will be officially included in the MOU and signed. We continue to be in communication with all the stakeholders to make sure the process is moving along and receive updates on the progress.

Our 11th Annual Diversity and Inclusion is our signature event that generates public awareness for our mission and goal to build the World Unity Landmark. It was held November 9th, 2007 at the Boston Marriott Hotel in Copley Square. Our keynote speaker was Seidu Sumani, Senior Vice President/Director of Internal Audit, Putnam Investments. We continue to reach out to new corporate sponsors.

We co-sponsored the 3rd Annual Statewide poetry contest on Diversity and Equality with WROR FM. We had over 200 entries from 17 different schools across the state. There winners were Keila Lara, third grade student at the Joseph Hurley School in Boston, Elizabeth Gomes, 6th grade student at the Martin E. Young School and Michael Papastavrou an 11th grade student at Waltham High School. The winning poems were narrated by the student and aired on WROR radio throughout the month of February. This annual event promotes diversity and inclusion through the poetry of children. It engages the students to think about the issue and share their vision and voice with the greater community.

We co-sponsored our 2nd professional development event with Putnam Investments and Prudential Financial €“ Empowering Minorities and Women for Professional Success. The event was hosted by Putnam Investments. Our panelists included distinguished industry leaders from Putnam Investments, Prudential Financial, and DentalQuest.. The event continues to be well attended and received. We also expanded our board and added Cherie Kiser from Mintz Levin. The firm has donated their services to help us finalize the site.

This year our total expenses was $58,877. The funds we raised including interest income was $92,699. Year to date our assets are $363,928.
