2015 Annual Report
June 2015
World Unity, Inc. has been dedicated to its mission and vision for the past 22 years. We continue to promote our initiatives through social media, “Singing Equality across America,” campaign, public service announcement, our website and an annual diversity and inclusion leadership gala, our signature event. This all helps empower individuals and communities with the Sun poem and build awareness for World Unity, Inc.
One of the highlights this year - the winning song from our national songwriting contest was performed at the United Nations September 26, 2015. It was first performed in Massachusetts at Plymouth North HS by 100 students from the Plymouth public schools and the South Shore Conservatory in a fundraising concert for the African Children’s Choir. We videotaped it.
We continue our campaign, “Singing Equality across America.” We see this as a long term vision to plant this song in the American culture. We reached out to school districts, companies and organizations across the nation and invited them to consider posting the video on their Facebook page. Boston, Newton, Cambridge and Plymouth public schools are some of the school districts that posted it. Wheelock College and Western Michigan University posted it. The Boston Marriott led the way in the private sector. From Boston to Denver to San Francisco, Marriott hotels posted it. In the non-profit the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts led the way and a dozen Urban Leagues across the nation posted it. YWCA of Central Mass and Big Sister posted it. We especially want to note The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity posted it. They are a non-profit composed of 250 chief legal officers of corporations and managing partners of law firms seeking to make the legal industry more diverse.
We continued to reach out to TV and radio stations across Boston and the nation with our new PSA that incorporates our song. We were especially targeting those cities that have racial tensions and conflicts such as Baltimore, Maryland and Ferguson Missouri.
Our annual diversity and inclusion leadership gala continues to be a success. This year our 19th Annual Diversity and Inclusion Gala was held Friday, October 23rdth at the Boston Marriott Hotel in Copley Square. This is our signature event each year to generate awareness, bring the community together and raise funds. The revenues generated for fiscal year 2015 totaled $32,125. The keynote speaker was the first Chief Diversity for Boston, Shaun Blugh. |
