PSA
2014 Annual Report

June 2014

World Unity, Inc. has been dedicated to its mission and vision for the past 21 years. We continue to promote our initiatives through social media, public service campaign, website and an annual diversity and inclusion leadership gala, our signature event. This all helps empower individuals and communities with the Sun poem and build awareness for World Unity, Inc.

An exciting initiative this year was sponsoring a national songwriting contest. We invited singer songwriters across the country to turn the Sun poem into a song and make it come alive. The guidelines were to write a song 2 minutes long that include all the lines of the poem. We received entries from across the country. The winner received $500. The winning song was, “We All See the Stars,” by John Ciambriello from New Haven Connecticut. The song inspired an initiative, “Singing Equality across America.” We designed two lesson plans and made it available on our website along with the music sheet. We reached out to about 300 directors of music and the performing arts in school districts in Massachusetts and major cities across the country to introduce our song and invite them to share with their music teachers.

We produced a new public service announcement incorporating the song and presented it to TV and radio stations in Boston and major cities across the country. We especially targeted cities that have had racial tensions and conflicts such as Baltimore, Maryland and Ferguson Missouri. We introduced it as tool with a powerful message that can heal and help bring the city together. The PSA is promoting our powerful message and building awareness for World Unity, Inc.

We launched a donor recognition program. Companies, non-profits and individuals have an opportunity to leave a legacy. By participating in this program with a contribution their name will be permanently recognized on the donor recognition wall. Some of our core sponsors and individuals have signed up.

Our 18th Annual Diversity and Inclusion Gala was a success. It was held Friday, October 17th at the Boston Marriott Hotel in Copley Square. This is our signature event each year to generate awareness, bring the community together and raise funds. The revenues generated for fiscal year 2014 totaled $33,350. The keynote speaker was Michael Curry, President of the Boston Chapter of the NAACP.
