Letter of Intent, Symposium
This year marked a milestone in pursuing our mission to build a landmark promoting equality, diversity and unity. After searching for a waterfront site for eight years, it has taken another two years to finalize a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the MBTA and the BRA. In January of 2003 the MOA was finalized and World Unity, Inc. received its first draft of a letter of intent for the waterfront site in the seaport district of Boston. This letter allows us to move forward to the design phase of the project.
Our fundraising efforts continue to be successful as we reach out to new companies and new donors. This past year we held our 7th Annual Fundraising event at the Boston Marriott Hotel in Copley Square. We had close to 300 hundred guests attending. We raised about $45,400. The expenses were $13,000.
For the first time we spearheaded a symposium, “Creating A World Free of Prejudice, Bias, and Discrimination,” at the Boston Public Library on June 18th from 9:30-12Noon. We sponsored the event along with fourteen other non-profit organizations committed to fighting some form of discrimination. The goal was to have 170 participants attend the event. This event gave World Unity, Inc. an opportunity to introduce the project to the non-profit organizations committed to fighting discrimination and to the general public.
The World Unity, Inc. website has been redesigned with a sharper look and more graphics. It continues to be an effective tool to promote the project to the community via internet.
A new board member was voted on and two board members resigned. One board member remains as an advisor to the board.
