Resolution passed by Boston City Council
This was a benchmark year. We opened the year with the passing of a resolution by the Boston City Council, wholeheartedly supporting the construction of The Sun Unity Tower as a landmark symbol promoting equality, compassion and hope for all people.
Councilor Mickey Roache who initiated the resolution presented it at our January Board meeting. We have identified a site in the seaport district that is ideal for The Sun Unity Tower. The land is owned by the MBTA. We have their commitment to help us secure the site. We are working closely with them to go through the process of drafting up an amendment that will be added to the present agreement.
The other sites that are still being considered are Central Artery and Fan Pier. After going through the public meetings regarding the Massport site it has become clear that this site is not a possibility.
The board of directors expanded with the addition of Anowsh Dadgar of Dadgar Insurance, Tom Wagner from Deloitte & Touche, Sam Wells with Lynx Financial, Adita Vazquez with the West Roxbury District Court and Anastasios Papatsoris with private Client group at Fleet. Jan Sousa, Clark Jacques and Patric LaCroix have had to step down as board of directors and become advisors.
Sam Wells was voted clerk to take over the responsibilities from Harriet Kotomari who has been clerk since the founding of the organizations in 1993. Financially we continue to increase our funds. This past year we raised about $44,587. Our expenses were for the year was $4,850.
We are organizing a coalition of non-profit organizations committed to equality to become a part of The Sun Unity Tower. About 13 organizations have been contacted those unable to attend will be kept informed of the meetings with minutes via email. These meetings will generate ideas and possibilities.
