About Dr. Evans

Dr. W.Franklin Evans is the first Black president in West Liberty University’s 183-year history. Evans – who is West Liberty’s 37th president – is formerly president of Voorhees College and was previously interim president of South Carolina State University. During his tenure, SCSU’s enrollment broke its goal, fundraising increased by 687%, alumni support rose and the school balanced its budget.

Evans has a lengthy career in higher ed, also having worked at Virginia Union University, Elizabeth City State, J. F. Drake State Technical College, Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University and Tennessee State University.

Evans – who is active in the NAACP – holds a doctoral degree in higher education administration from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree in entomology from the University of Georgia. He also holds “a degree in journalism, middle childhood education, curriculum and instruction and administration and supervision from Georgia State University
